CBD Oil vs CBD Gummies: Which is Right for You?

As you browse through all the different types of CBD products, it can be hard to decide which would be right for you. There are CBD oils, gummies, vapes, lotions, and more– so which should you choose? To help you narrow in on your perfect CBD product type, below, we’re taking a closer look at the differences between two of the most popular CBD products: CBD oils and CBD gummies. We’ll go over how these products are used, how quickly they take effect, what you should know about their dosage, and more.

CBD Oil vs. Gummies: Definition

First, let’s go over what these CBD products are. A CBD oil, also sometimes called a CBD tincture, is an oil that contains some kind of cannabidiol (CBD) extract. A CBD oil will generally come in a small glass bottle with a dropper lid, which you use to measure out the amount of CBD you’d like to take. CBD gummies are candy gummies that contain some kind of CBD extract. CBD gummies usually come in multipacks, which contain multiple gummies to provide multiple doses of CBD.

CBD oil and CBD gummies provide a different type of experience, since you use them in different ways. There’s really only one way to use CBD gummies: eat them. Eating a CBD gummy can feel like having a treat, since you’re eating a delicious candy to get your desired dose of CBD. Many people love that taking CBD gummies can feel fun and novel. Then, CBD oil is a more versatile way to take CBD, so it can offer a few different types of experiences. One way to use CBD oil is to simply place your desired dose in your mouth, just like you might if you took a liquid supplement. Many people who take CBD oil daily love how fast and convenient it is to use CBD oil this way. But in addition to just taking CBD oil alone, you can also use your oil to infuse CBD into any number of foods or drinks. For example, you could put your CBD oil in your morning coffee or smoothie, or mix it into a soup.

CBD Oil vs. Gummies: Rate of Absorption

Depending on how you take your CBD oil, CBD oil and gummies can have a different rate of absorption. To take a CBD gummy, you always eat it, so your body always absorbs a CBD gummy through the digestive system. It takes a while for the human body to absorb CBD through the digestive system, so it can take an hour or two for you to feel the effects of a CBD gummy. CBD oil, on the other hand, can be taken orally or taken sublingually. If CBD oil is taken orally (by swallowing it or eating it in food or drink), it will be absorbed through the digestive system, just like a gummy would. However, if you would like to feel the effects of a CBD oil more quickly, you can take it sublingually by holding it under your tongue for about 30 seconds before swallowing it. We have tiny blood vessels under our tongue that can absorb CBD much more quickly than the digestive system can. With sublingual application, it generally takes around 20 minutes to feel the effects of a CBD oil.

CBD Oil vs. Gummies: Full-Spectrum Benefits

Our Born Original Full Spectrum CBD Oil Tincture contains a full-spectrum proprietary CBD blend that boasts cannabidiol, other beneficial cannabinoids, and terpenes. It also always contains 0.3% tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) or less, so you’ll get the benefits of CBD with absolutely no psychoactive effects.

Both CBD oil and CBD gummies will contain some type of CBD extract from the industrial hemp plant. But these products can contain different types of CBD extract. When you look for a CBD product, we generally recommend looking for one that contains full-spectrum CBD. A full-spectrum hemp oil or hemp extract will contain CBD, but will also contain other beneficial elements of the hemp plant, like terpenes and other cannabinoids. It’s thought that these other elements of the hemp cannabis plant work together with CBD to improve its effectiveness through a process called the entourage effect. So, in general, we recommend opting for a full-spectrum CBD product over a CBD isolate product, since full-spectrum CBD is thought to have greater benefits.

With that said, it’s important to note that not all CBD oils and CBD edibles, like gummies, will contain full-spectrum CBD extract. And, in fact, while full-spectrum CBD oils are fairly common, full-spectrum CBD gummies are somewhat rare. CBD edibles are usually made with CBD isolate. At The Born Co., we make both our CBD tinctures and our CBD gummies with full-spectrum CBD, but not everyone does. So if you’re looking for full-spectrum CBD benefits from your oil or gummies, be sure to check what’s in a CBD product before purchasing it.

CBD Oil vs. Gummies: Serving Amount and Dosage

The way you get a certain dose of CBD varies between CBD oils and CBD gummies. CBD oils allow you to measure out your dosage yourself with your bottle’s dropper. This means you can very easily make adjustments to your dosage of CBD oil, which many people see as a major benefit. However, it also means that some people who aren’t as comfortable with using a dropper may feel like they aren’t able to accurately regulate how much CBD they take. Then, with a CBD gummy, you get exactly the same amount of CBD each time you take the same gummy. For example, each of our Born Original Gummies contains 50 mg of CBD. So, every time you eat one of our CBD gummy worms, you’ll get 50 mg of CBD. Many people love the consistent dosage you get with a CBD gummy. However, it is harder to adjust your dosage with a gummy, since you can’t measure out slightly more or less as easily.

Final Thoughts: Choose What Works for You

CBD oil and CBD gummies certainly have their differences, but we think that both of these products are a great way to use CBD. If you’re still split on whether an oil or a gummy would be right for you, consider trying both out for yourself to see which one you enjoy more. Trial and error is often the best way to figure out which CBD product will work for your lifestyle, tastes, and desired results.
